Up to date, Bacco Estate offers only three cuvees, with the Syrah as the grandfather of the three. The Bacco Estate Syrah 2019 from the Paarl region can easily be compared with some of the serious Syrahs from the Swartland and other coastal wards.
It has a deep ruby colour up to the rim and this wine is extremely forthcoming on the nose. It offers a complex smell of black fruits and spices. Upon entry, the Syrah offers a brief freshness that develops immediately into a well-balanced wine on the palate. It has a prominent meatiness, hints of plums and prunes, and mulberries. It leaves hints of mixed spices on the palate.
The Bacco Estate Syrah is a very serious style Syrah that will go well with a steak or potjiekos. It is the type of wine that you will open for a serious conversation and enjoy in small sips. I enjoyed this wine with a large group of people and it was received very positively with great enjoyment.
