Wines from Elgin Vintners have made me smile several times. Maybe because I can present their wines with confidence and know that it will be received positively. I recently presented their Merlot at one of the club tastings, and it was pointed out to be a highlight amongst the reds for the day.
Elgin Vintners, situated in the Elgin Valley that is well known for apples, feel that their climate is ideal for Merlot because this grape variety does not like moisture during the ripening season. They have experienced very little rainfall during this time up to now.
This wine has a ruby colour and a forthcoming smell of plums and violets. It delivers on the palate with ripe plums and spices, medium complexity that is well balanced. It has silky tannins and a good acidity.
This wine is made in small quantities with just over a thousand cases per vintage. The price is reasonable and in line with the quality that you get. It is a good wine and should be tried. This wine is available from Partners in Wine.
