Hartenberg Gravel Hill Syrah 2016

The Gravel Hill Syrah from Hartenberg Estate is one of their signature Syrahs. The Gravel Hill specifically refers to the terroir of the vines, that are planted in gravel.

This wine has a dark red colour with a deep centre. It has forthcoming savoury notes of umami, wood spice, black berries and violets coming through. It is a complex wine that enters with some red and black berries on the palate, followed by meatiness, spices of thyme and pepper, and with a perfumy finish. Its tannins are still firm and it is clear that this wine has the potential to develop for another 8-10 years.

This wine was made well and is worth a try, either now or in the next 10 years. It will go beautifully with a savoury dish, a braaied steak or even some duck breast with a gravy sauce. Definitely worth a try!
