The Klein Constantia Metis Sauvignon Blanc is one of the finest crafts from this producer. It is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, inspired by the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc styles from the world-famous Pascal Jolivet from Sancerre in France.
This wine has a beautiful but complex nose of tropical fruit, citrus and minerals. It delivers perfectly well on the palate, reminiscent of the typical New Zealand style of Sauvignon Blanc. Tropical notes of yellow melon, kiwi, and grapefruit are kept together by lemon and lime, against a mineral background of salinity and a slight herbal note. This wine is a fantastic expression of what can be achieved with Sauvignon Blanc.
I am relieved that this wine is released as a slightly aged wine. It has the potential to age for another 10 years. Not only is it a great wine to enjoy on its own or with food, but it makes a great conversation piece: the influence of Pascal Jolivet, New Zealand vs South African wines, ageing white wines, and the label of the French iris and the protea showing the collaboration between the two countries. This wine stands out in any tasting and is an absolute must-try for any wine lover.
This wine should be served chilled in ice water and it can be enjoyed on its own or with food. It will make a perfect companion to a wide variety of seafood, poultry dishes and even a creamy fillet steak. It is ready to drink now or within the next 10 years.
