Meerlust Chardonnay 2022

Meerlust makes one of my favourite Chardonnays and I was excited to taste the 2022 vintage. This wine has a light-yellow colour with a yellow-gold hue in the glass. It has elegant notes of citrus, yellow pear and flowers on the nose. It delivers well on the palate with a soft but fresh entry, adding notes of lemon zest, lemon cream, oatmeal and lemon cream. Notes of vanilla are evident, but not overly prominent. It finishes with a soft mouthfeel and marzipan. This wine has a zippy acidity, a good complexity and is fruit-forward.

This wine is not as floral as the previous vintage, but it has the potential to develop well in the bottle over the next few months. The oak integration of this wine is perfect and makes it an ideal wine to be enjoyed on its own or with a creamy pasta dish. This wine should be chilled well and is a must in any Chardonnay lover’s cellar. It will also make a perfect vertical tasting.
