The Mont Rochelle Little Rock is, as the name and price suggest, part of the entry-level wines of Mont Rochelle. That said, it is important to mention, right from the start, that this wine should not be underestimated. If this wine has to appear in a blind tasting, most people will probably never guess that this is a R100 bottle of wine!
From the vineyards of Richard Branson in Franschhoek, this blend was created to give just the right balance of fruitiness, freshness and structure. Fermented in the horizontal steel tanks of the cellar, the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier were vinified separately and then left on the gross lees for 5 months.
In this glass, you have a pale straw wine with a very forthcoming nose of tropical fruit, stone fruit and citrus. It delivers well on the palate with a good acidity, pineapples, apricots, peaches, green melon and guava. It finishes with a slight spiciness, against a firm stone fruit backdrop and a great freshness.
This wine is the perfect aperitif, served chilled as a starter drink. It could also be paired with pasta, fish, chicken or a good cheese board. This wine is the ultimate value for money. It should be drunk and enjoyed now or within the next year.
