Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial NV

People often forget that Champagne can be sweet, in addition to the huge amount of rather dry options available. And a sweeter style Champagne does not mean that it should go with desserts as such, it can merely start a fabulous evening on a sweet note. The Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial will do exactly that!

This wine spent 18 months on the lees during secondary fermentation and a further 3 months in the cellar after disgorging. As you pour it in your glass, the bubbles are strikingly fine and pearly. In the glass, it is a bright wine with a slight green tinge and it is forthcoming on the nose. The nose offers aromas of tropical fruit, flowers and lime. The entry on the palate is sweet but the sweetness is not overpowering and it develops into a structured wine as it unfolds on the palate. The bubbles are structured but elegant, contributing to a good balance. Tropical notes of candied pineapple and mango comes through, against an acidic background that keeps it all together. The finish is fine and fresh.

This wine is best served chilled well. It is ideal as a sweet welcome drink or appetiser, but will also compliment starters such a oysters with caviar, chicken satay or salads well. This Champagne comes at a good price and is worth a try!
