Neil Ellis Piekenierskloof Grenache 2018

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

When you think Piekenierskloof, Grenache is the grape! The Neil Ellis Piekenierskloof Grenache was sourced from ungrafted, non-irrigated bush vines in the Piekenierskloof area. It spent 14 months in French oak barrels to express its characteristics optimally.

This wine has a medium red colour that is consistent up to the rim. Bringing it to your nose, delivers red fruit and forest floor. So, first guess for this wine is Pinot Noir, without a doubt. It is only when you taste it, that the red cherries and strawberries mix with star anise and it gives away that this is a serious Grenache. It is a very well-balanced wine on the palate, with a great balance between fruit, acidity and fine tannins. It has a long-lasting finish of perfume.

What a unique Grenache! I would recommend that any Grenache and/or Pinot Noir lover tries this wine! This wine will pair well with roasted meats or an Asian stew.
