Niel Joubert First Kiss 2012

Writer's picture: Jaco MeyerJaco Meyer

The Niel Joubert First Kiss is, together with the Christine-Marie MCC, part of the top range of this wine farm. This is a fortified Chenin Blanc that is produced ad-hoc, the current available vintage is 2012. Thinking about a first kiss, this is as sweet as the name suggests in many ways.

This wine has a deep yellow colour in the glass with a slightly orange hue. It is forthcoming on the nose, with dried fruit, yellow flowers, ginger and butterscotch. It has a soft entry on the palate, with dried peaches, apricots and sweet perfume developing on the middle palate. Secondary notes of ginger, butter, and sweet oak spices develop against a continuous freshness and high acidity that enables this wine to cut through with power. It is rich and creamy on the palate, with a long finish.

This is a great dessert wine and will pair well with a wide variety of desserts, specifically a cheese platter or pannacotta. Even better, this wine is sold in 500ml bottles, which means that you get more wine than most other dessert wines, making the price of this wine a real bargain.
