The Osbloed Kultus is an iconic wine by Bertus van Niekerk. The label and name of this wine indicate the winemaker’s interest in religions and cults. This wine has a ruby red colour and offers spice, perfume, raspberry, blackberry and oak on the nose. This wine has a great complexity, delivering well on what it promises on the nose: raspberry and oak spice. The tannins are velvety soft and it has a long finish with hints of minerality.
The unusual way in which the winemaker makes his single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to the fruit-forward and soft-tannic profile of this wine. To soften this wine further and add some red fruit, a good component of Cinsault was added, and some Shiraz to add complexity and spiciness.
This wine can be chilled slightly. It can be enjoyed on its own or with a creamy pasta or grilled steak. This is certainly a great wine, well worth trying if it is possible to get your hand on one of these scarce bottles.
