I recently presented the Stettyn Cabernet Sauvignon to the Decanter Wine Club and it is probably the wine for which I had to answer the most questions. People were flabbergasted by the quality of wine that you get for the low price of R75 a bottle – it is a real bargain, making the Stettyn Family Vineyards a real value-for-money gem!
This wine is made in a more New World style, from trellising to stainless steel fermentation, malolactic conversion and the use of French oak chips to exercise ultimate control over the wine and create something that is very close to the winemaker's ideal. The result is a fruity wine that expresses blackberry, plums and redcurrant on the nose with hints of vanilla pods. It delivers well on the palate with a balanced wine, fine tannins and an easy finish.
This is a wine that is certainly worth a try. I firmly believe that this wine has some finer nuances to it that are exhibited over time, as I had some people at the tasting who told me – upon the first sip – that they have a Stettyn Cabernet Sauvignon in their glass. That says something about this wine...
