Sy Raas Shiraz 2022

This is the wine of Karen Zoid, dubbed the Queen of Rock in South Africa, made by Doolhof Wines. This wine has a dark ruby colour and a lovely nose of black fruit, spices and cherries. On the palate, blueberries, blackberries, plums, spices and black cherries play off against a good acidity, fresh fruitiness and a solid balance.

When I presented this wine at a recent tasting, everyone was impressed with the accessibility of the wine. It is well-balanced, easy to drink but still with enough structure to pair with a hearty dish. It has a great and fresh finish of spices.

The bottle has a beautiful label and is accompanied by a poem on the back. This wine will work well with eggplant or a fillet steak. It can be served at room temperature or slightly cooled.
