Villiera is known for a range of sparkling wines and the Pearls of Nectar is a new addition to the collection. The name of this wine refers to the string of bubbles one finds in this wine, as well as the pearls of nectar that attract insects and birds. The elegant coloured label and name of this wine create an impression that this will be a sweet MCC, and it delivers on this expectation. This Demi-Sec sparkling wine is ideal for those who prefer a sweet start, but it will probably work best just before dessert.
This wine is mostly made from Chardonnay and spent 18 months on the lees for a smooth and structured mouthfeel. The bubbles are small and elegant, with a light-yellow colour throughout. This is a lively wine from start to end, with a blend of tinned fruit, raspberry and brioche. It has a sweet finish.
The fruit and acidity of this wine make it a well-balanced wine, but I am not sure if the acidity and residual sugar content will be able to cut through sweet desserts. Therefore, it might be a great wine before dessert, but will work well with a cheeseboard after meals.
